Why St. Catharines 'makes sense' for one of Canada's largest family-owned furniture stores

There’s a lot of upside for St. Catharines, says the president of one of Canada’s largest family-owned home furnishing retailers.

"We are honored to bring Tepperman's to St. Catharines," said Andrew Tepperman, third-generation president for the family-run business, during a visit to the Garden City earlier this month to celebrate the opening its newest furniture store.

"What a great city; what a great time to come here.”

With demand growing in Niagara, Tepperman said St. Catharines, Ontario was an ideal location to service the region efficiently. And, while it made sense demographically, the president said “it also made sense based on St. Catharines’ strategic vision” and where the city is going.

“The GM investment. The shipyard expansion. The 4,000-plus small and medium-sized businesses expanding. The Housing Accelerator Fund. The tourism. The food and wine scene. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that.”

Tepperman's is a family-owned Canadian furniture, appliance, mattress, electronic and décor retailer with a rich history of serving Ontario communities for nearly a century. Tepperman’s St. Catharine is the company’s sevent store with locations in Windsor, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Ancaster, Sarnia and Chatham.

Called a Tepperman’s 3.0 centre, the 44,000-square-foot showroom and outlet centre at 399 Louth St. will have about 50 employees and includes a number of sustainability features, such as EV charging stations, an indoor garden with a variety of air-purifying tropical plants and solar panels to offset a portion of the store's total energy consumption.
